NTEC Dressage Riders Attend NAJYRC

Lexington, Kentucky

July, 2009

Junior Rider Julia Handt on Vindaris

The North American Junior and Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC) were held in Lexington, KY, in July. This very special competition brings together the best riders from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean Islands for a continental championship in the equestrian disciplines of dressage, show jumping, reining, and eventing. Riders compete on teams as well as individually at the junior rider level (age 14-18 years) or the young rider level (age 16 – 21 years). Teams representing each of nine United State Dressage Federation (USDF) regions are composed of up to four riders who earn spots on their regional team by competing in a series of qualifying competitions throughout the year. One of the four riders representing Region 9 in the junior age division was NTEC rider Julia Handt who qualified with the Latvian warmblood, Vindaris, owned by Amanda Kravitz. NTEC rider Rachel Campbell and her chestnut Hanoverian, Wandango, earned a slot on the Region 9 young rider team and finished 16th individually in the highly competitive field of 40 riders. Both riders are coached by NTEC head trainer, Kai Handt. Ashley Deatherage and Amanda Kravitz, both of whom also ride at NTEC, travelled to Lexington with the riders as their grooms.

Special thanks to the generous local sponsors who outfitted the Region 9 NAJYRC dressage teams, including The Bridle Suite, The Horse of Course, Yellow Rose Dressage, Rose Hollow Tack, North Texas Equestrian Center, It’s All About the Horse, The Houston Dressage Society, The Texas Rose Horse Park, Charlotte’s Saddlery, HPF Designs, Equitex, and Sweet Gypsy Creations.
